Traffic Court Records in Oconto County
Before anything else, read the court name in the citation's upper-left corner. That one line tells you where the case lives. If it says Oconto County Circuit Court, the ticket came from the Oconto County Sheriff or Wisconsin State Patrol in Oconto County. Follow the county Clerk of Courts routes. Circuit traffic and criminal-traffic cases often have public summaries in WCCA. The Clerk keeps the official file and certified copies.
A citation naming Oconto, Oconto Falls, Gillett Joint, Lena, Suring, or another municipal court belongs to that local court. These courts handle ordinance, parking, traffic, and forfeiture matters. There is no unified public search for municipal cases. A payment page is not a docket. If a municipal judgment gets appealed, though, the resulting circuit case is searchable through WCCA.
Read the Oconto County Court Label
That label saves people from the most common mistake. Oconto County plainly warns that sending a municipal citation payment to the county clerk can hold up your refund by 10 to 14 days. Match the citation number, issuing agency, appearance details, and court name before you pay or plead.
- County circuit citation
- Names Oconto County Circuit Court and uses county clerk search, plea, payment, and record routes.
- Municipal citation
- Names a city, village, or joint municipal court and stays with that clerk unless appealed.
- Payment portal
- Accepts money for the named court but does not serve as a public case-summary database.
Questions about a county citation go to 920-834-6858. The Clerk's main line is 920-834-6859. For municipal matters, use the number on the citation or the municipality's official court page.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
For a county circuit citation, run a free search on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access portal, ideally with the circuit case number. No number handy? Search by name and set County to Oconto. Municipal citations work differently: call or visit the issuing court, since the county's local payment systems offer no single docket search.
- Read the court name, citation number, and Appearance Required field on the ticket.
- If it names Oconto County Circuit Court, search WCCA by case number or by name with Oconto selected.
- Review the public case summary, status, plea or disposition, and Court Activities.
- If it names a municipal court, contact that clerk for the current date, status, and record.
- If the result is missing or new, call the correct court rather than sending payment elsewhere.
You can also go in person. The county public counter sits in Building C, first floor, 301 Washington Street, Oconto, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Citation questions can be handled by phone, and official record copies come through the clerk's mail, fax, email-form, or in-person routes.
Oconto Municipal Traffic Routes
Every municipal court runs its own contacts and payments. City of Oconto Municipal Court sits at 1210 Main Street, phone 920-834-7718. It takes AllPaid/GovPayNet with location code 9040. Oconto Falls Municipal Court is at 500 N Chestnut Avenue, phone 920-846-4517. It links Payment Service Network. Gillett Joint Municipal Court, at 150 N McKenzie Avenue, phone 920-855-2255, uses EB2Gov.
Lena Municipal Court sits at 117 E Main Street, phone 920-829-5226. AllPaid, phone, mail, counter, and drop-box options are open there. State sources list a Suring municipal court as well. Your citation is the reliable guide to the right court; skip the third-party directories.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
On an Oconto County circuit citation, the printed date is the initial appearance. Whether you must show up depends on the Appearance Required designation. County instructions allow a no-dispute route for a person who contests nothing and need not appear. The current citation and court instructions always control. WCCA's Court Activities may list a scheduled hearing. A quick call to the clerk is smart. Do that before you drive anywhere.
| Citation or case number | Use the actual printed identifier; a circuit criminal-traffic case may resemble 2026CT000123. |
|---|---|
| Court | Oconto County Circuit Court or the specific municipal court named on the citation. |
| Date and time | The initial appearance or later pretrial, hearing, or trial setting. |
| Appearance flag | Follow “Appearance Required” and any later written court order. |
| Status | Read public pending, disposition, judgment, or rescheduled information in context. |
A listed hearing date is not a result. Rescheduling orders can move it, and a routine municipal matter may never show up in WCCA at all.
Oconto County Initial Appearance
No testimony happens at the county initial appearance. There, a person enters one of three pleas. Not Guilty denies the allegation and sends the case to a pretrial conference, and trial follows if nothing gets resolved. Guilty admits it. No Contest allows a guilty finding without the admission.
The Oconto County Traffic and Forfeitures page lays out each of these stages in the county's own words.

If a posted online summary and your paper notice disagree, the citation and current court order win.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
A county citation gives you two paths. Pay it: someone who does not dispute the charge can send the pink citation and deposit before the initial appearance under the county's no-contest closure process, when no appearance is required. Fight it: a written not-guilty plea, filed before the initial appearance by mail, by fax to 920-834-6867, or in person, keeps the dispute alive.
| Pay or do not dispute | Contest |
|---|---|
| Check that no appearance is required. | Submit Not Guilty before initial appearance. |
| Send the pink citation and deposit as directed. | Include citation/case number and scheduled date. |
| Use WCCA, Point and Pay, AllPaid, mail, or counter for a county matter. | Include name, signature, mailing address, and telephone. |
| No Contest permits a guilty finding without an admission. | A pretrial is set; trial may follow if unresolved. |
Missed response: failure to send the citation or deposit and failure to appear can result in default, a fine, 60 days to pay, and State Debt Collection referral.
Never skip court when the citation says Appearance Required. A later order, an amended date, or case-specific directions can override anything a web page tells you.
County Payment Channels and Codes
Paying an Oconto County citation online goes through WCCA. It lists Point and Pay at 877-495-2729 and AllPaid at 888-604-7888. Expect a service fee on either channel. For AllPaid, use county location code 3075 for fines and fees, or 4704 for bond. A code speeds things up. It does not replace checking the court named on your citation. Check the case number itself, too.
The Building C counter takes cash, check, money order, or card. Card payments carry a service fee. By mail, send a check or money order with the case or citation number written in the memo line. Want a mailed receipt? Include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Fines and court costs are generally due within 60 days after conviction unless the court orders otherwise. Any payment-plan request must be in writing. Ask the clerk about the current form fields before you submit.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two different files track one traffic case in Oconto County. The court file, held by the court itself, documents the citation case. It also covers the plea, Court Activities, the judgment, and the public disposition. The Wisconsin driver record is a separate WisDOT file. It reflects agency information like reported convictions, demerit points, and licensing action. WCCA cannot supply a certified driver record. Request that through the state agency instead.
| Court traffic record | Driver record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Oconto County Clerk or issuing municipal clerk | Wisconsin Department of Transportation |
| Shows | Citation case, plea, events, judgment, disposition | Reported convictions, points, and license status |
| Access | WCCA summary or request to the responsible clerk | WisDOT’s official driver-record process |
Call WisDOT at 800-924-3570 for driver-record matters on its county list. That line won't help with an Oconto County court docket question, though. A docket entry can't tell you the licensing outcome either, since the conviction, statute, driver history, and agency action can all play a part.
Oconto County Traffic Case Volume
Wisconsin's 2024 municipal report counted 1,007 entries across Oconto County municipal courts. The City of Oconto accounted for 507. City of Oconto Falls accounted for 276, Suring for 154, Gillett Joint for 58, and Lena for 12. Remember what these numbers are: reported court entries. They are not people, unique citations, or convictions. Gillett Joint's figure also covers its full joint jurisdiction, not just residents of Gillett.
Those figures explain why no single city payment page can stand in for an Oconto County traffic search. They measure 2024 reporting volume, not a live case inventory.
Fees and Copies
Need an official Oconto County circuit traffic record? Ask the Clerk of Circuit Court for the exact document. Looking is free during regular hours. Copies cost $1.25 per page, certification runs $5 per document, and mailing adds $2. A certified judgment carries the county endorsement and court seal. A plain WCCA printout won't do that job.
| Item | Posted fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection | No charge | Public records at the counter during normal hours |
| Plain copy | $1.25 per page | Name the case and specific record |
| Certification | $5 per document | Added to the copy charge when requested |
| Mailing | $2 | Confirm return-postage directions |
Each municipal court sets its own copy fees and procedures, so the county schedule never applies to a local citation. Confirm current amounts before sending any payment.
Oconto County Traffic Access Help
Oconto County's Language Access Plan covers interpreter requests, language assistance, and ADA access. Need help with an appearance, a plea, or a records visit? Contact the clerk or the issuing municipal court early. Office hours and hearing hours differ. A payment site being up around the clock does not mean a clerk or judge is in session.
Hang on to the citation when you ask for help. It carries the court name, number, date, issuing authority, and appearance direction. Staff need those details to route your question. Never send sensitive personal details through an unconfirmed form. Verify courthouse closures before you travel.
Official Oconto County Traffic Checks
Before acting, compare the county payment instructions with the court named on your citation. A City of Oconto matter instead follows the municipal court page. A Gillett-area joint-court citation follows the Gillett Joint Municipal Court. Checking these official routes keeps a local payment portal from being mistaken for a county circuit docket.
